I also found them great when I was researching for a raised terrace with wooden decking.

Used Ipe boards (smooth) with screws on a Bongossi substructure. Great woods, but use good tools for drilling and screwing. Bongossi is, for example, used for boat docks or pasture fences and can also spend decades in water.

There is probably no best option, it strongly depends on the requirements and budget. We have now decided on Garapa on split/concrete stone/isopad/Madioqueira base.

Hello,

we had set our sights on Garapa. It is supposed to be quite good and durable, but according to several timber dealers, the quality is by far not what you could get just a few years ago.
It looks even worse with Bankirai; some don't even want to supply it anymore. There is simply nothing good left, the supplies are exhausted, and pretty much everything you get today strictly comes from illegal sources. (and that was the dealer's statement!!!).
You really can't in good conscience use tropical wood anymore.

He then suggested thermally treated ash, which is treated ash, looks very nice, has a very pleasant feel, and is supposed to last forever, but is even more expensive.

We definitely wanted a wooden terrace, but then switched to large-format granite slabs. Even in large format including substructure and installation, they were significantly cheaper than just the material for a Garapa terrace.

If you want to stick with wood, definitely choose something light; dark woods heat up a lot. Some neighbors here can only walk on their dark wooden terraces with shoes.

If you ever want to drive to Nuremberg, take a look at Holz Ziller. They have a large showroom and were unbeatable in price back then.

Best regards,

Andreas
