Yes, generally that is true, it is more of a tax credit. Only for Hartz IV recipients and in legal aid — so for home builders, who are rather well-off, irrelevant — is child benefit considered income. Nevertheless, our bank took the child benefit into account as income. Why not, since it flows in for a considerable part of the calculated loan term... I would see it differently if, at the time of application, the children were already "old" and only had a few years left of entitlement to child benefit. Under this condition, it is definitely to be taken into account for me.

Our bank explained to us that if they consider children with a flat rate, then of course they also take into account their [Kindergeld]. If the latter is no longer paid, then no flat rate needs to be considered for the child either, because they are no longer a "child" and do not need to be supported.

Let it come to you and wait for your bank appointment.

By the way, someone in the forum had an appointment at the [S-Kasse] today - the request was 110% financing totaling €440k loan with a total income of €6300. The comment was: Come back when you have 20% equity.

Conclusion: High monthly income is not everything. My suspicion is rather that the [S-Kasse] doesn't tolerate such nonsense. That also means, hopefully you are not with the [S-Kasse].

What is not necessarily the case... as life experience shows. We have only just been free of our son since 1.8. First permanent job. He is 28. Has a Master’s degree in Demography. Karsten

I earn significantly more than in the example above. But all banks including [s-Kasse] would have financed me 100% at very good conditions without any problems. I assume there is something else wrong, or 6300 is still below some threshold.

The Sparkasse would have financed us with 100% and just under 6k. Even gladly.
