Hi,
why should a gas heating system no longer be considered up-to-date? In terms of pollutants, they burn extremely clean, and the CO2 emissions are not really significant compared to the emissions caused during construction. If you’re building with a basement, just assume that the concrete used in the house alone has caused more CO2 than the heating system will emit over the next 15 years.
If CO2 is important to you, reduce your air travel. One round trip from Frankfurt to Hong Kong by one person corresponds to 5 years (!!!!!!) of heating with gas in our house!
In terms of operating costs, gas heating systems usually also come out better. With a gas price of 5 cents compared to 26-28 cents for electricity, a heat pump must achieve a coefficient of performance well over 5.5 in order to be better. Only brine heat pumps manage that.
The purchase price of the gas heating system is definitely significantly cheaper, but as Rick already wrote, you have to consider the exhaust pipe and connection in the calculation.
In addition, gas heating is silent, no loud, annoying fan unit outside, and when I look around at my neighbors, heat pumps still seem to be significantly more prone to faults and require more maintenance than gas heating systems.
If you install your gas heating system, I would always make sure that the heating loops in the screed are laid close enough so that you can possibly switch to a heat pump in 10-20 years.
Best regards,
Andreas
