Box spring bed or solid wood bed? What would you recommend?

Could it be that you don’t really know what a box spring bed even is?
It’s not about the frame itself but about a three-layer construction.

It consists of box, mattress, and topper, and through that the box spring bed reaches a comfortable height that makes getting up and lying down easier. Another advantage of box spring beds is the special lying comfort that results from the interplay of the individual components. Thus, a box spring bed cannot simultaneously be a waterbed.

We discussed back and forth forever and visited many fairs and stores because I always have problems when lying down.

With the box spring bed, I had the feeling that the topper is the deciding factor. In my friends’ cases, it was already sagging after a few years although branded. Also, we wanted different firmness levels. That’s why we went with a solid bed with mattresses that have a gel layer. I am satisfied now but can just as well imagine anything else. The frame is extra high, so getting in is just as comfortable as with the box spring bed.

I know exactly what it is. That's why I put "box spring bed" in quotation marks in my post. Looks like a box spring bed.
I don't think much of "I'll just stack a few layers on top of each other and then have a better bed." No matter how it's built and whichever topper I choose. You'll always end up with a version that's not optimal for your back, whether you're a back, stomach, or side sleeper.

Trying it out sounds nice too. But apart from a first impression, unfortunately, it doesn't mean much. It's like liking shoes in the store and then constantly getting blisters when walking. Only buy a bed/mattress that you can return 100% after an extensive test at home. Waterbeds also need at least a week for the back to properly relax. Before that, you can't tell whether you sleep well or poorly there.

But not suitable for everyone. We had one and eventually got rid of it because neither of us was happy with it.
You did not mention the disadvantage: Every turn is exhausting. And we both turn often at night and were often awake because of it.
People often say that you rarely turn over in a waterbed, but that was not the case for us.

Since then, we have a box spring bed from Sweden. And there you can also choose the mattresses and replace them if necessary.

A waterbed is not an option for us. For us, only a solid wood bed with a mattress or a box spring bed would be considered.

We also treated ourselves to a new box spring bed. We visited many stores, tried out different beds, and got advice.

In the end, we landed at swiss sense. The consultation was great and took a lot of time. We equipped the bed with different firmness levels and the corresponding topper. We have had the bed for about 6 months, and I have never slept as well as in this box spring bed :)
