Caution, this integrated protection must explicitly no longer be called "child protection." It is a "touch protection," as there have already been accidents with fatal outcomes. According to the manufacturers, these protective mechanisms are not sufficient to protect sockets from children's hands. I quote from the Gira website (unfortunately, I am not allowed to provide a link to the source...):
"Last year, there was a tragic accident with a fatal outcome in a daycare center when a toddler playing came into contact with live parts of a VDE-certified socket with shutter from one of our competitors. The VDE Testing and Certification Institute took this incident as an occasion to point out that the VDE certification of such a socket with shutter is by no means sufficient to advertise it as "child-safe" or similar. At the same time, the institute has immediately prohibited the use of its VDE mark for sockets with shutter in connection with terms such as "child protection" or "child-safe" as misleading. Market surveillance authorities also consider this type of product presentation deceptive, as it falsely suggests that children could use these sockets unsupervised and in any way without danger to themselves. As the incident in the daycare center clearly shows, however, dangers to life and limb can never be completely ruled out in the case of improper use of a socket with shutter."
Even if the sticky things are ugly or annoying, I would never put my child's protection in the background for the sake of my own comfort.
