Do you have a construction drawing and is the orientation of the bathtub indicated there? With us, the orientation was visible both in the drawing and was later confirmed again with the plumber during the construction meeting. So obviously this is not a defect. How a bathtub should be placed is very subjective. We also have ours turned the "way you normally wouldn’t do it," contrary to the recommendation/assumption of our sample advisor.

We have changed everything from the first construction drawing but did not record it in the plan anymore, instead discussed it on site. Unfortunately, we forgot to pay attention to the orientation of the bathtub or did not discuss anything about it at all... As I said, lesson learned... it won't happen again with the next house

It may also happen that you hit your head on the shelf if the tub is installed the other way around. Otherwise, you should of course discuss beforehand how you would like it; if you don’t say anything, the craftsman will decide.

I would have done the same in his place. You can't reach the filing cabinet anyway when you're in the tub, right? You can't grab it that way. Looking towards the door would also seem rather unusual to me.

Honestly, I don't think it's a big drama.

Yes, when the door opens, you turn around to see who is coming. But otherwise ... I don't see the shelf as a problem at all, actually quite the opposite. If you were lying with your back to the shelf, you would have to sit up, turn, and reach. This way, you just have to stretch forward and reach. And you can put a tablet on the shelf and turn on your favorite series.

What would bother me more is that the tub is so short or at least looks that way in the picture. It could have been pulled a bit longer toward the door. Enough so that the door still opens 90 degrees, with a stopper in front of the tub. Or are you both a bit shorter so that the tub length suits you well?
One could also have made the tiles and grout lines a bit more pleasing with a laying plan. But those are at most deductions in the B grade.

Presumably, it is also more practical this way because of the drain.
