Whether it is a defect or not could be debated now. I think it would be at most a visual defect, as no function is impaired here. The question is also how it was planned (detailed planning)? Because there are several ways to execute this: - last row of tiles to the door only after installation of the frame (this is how we did it) - as it was done here - frame is adjusted to the tiles (for the good door fitters who still show what they can do). I consider it wrong to solely blame the tiler here. It is often solved as it was done here: the frame on the wall tiles and the gap is grouted. How was the tiler supposed to know up to which dimension he is allowed to tile to the cutout? He cannot orient himself on the door cutout (at most only roughly), as it does not have to be 100% precise either. Furthermore, the door could also be installed centered in the cutout and then the most precise work of the tiler would be ruined. One could also ask why the door fitter did not adjust the frame in the tile area!?

So please, where is the problem if the tiler simply keeps 5 to 10 cm away from the door? Why should he even tile flush there? Ideally, do not tile the walls in the [Bad] at all, if it is not necessary.

The problem is obvious: a door frame is installed. If the tiler now stays 2, 4, or 6 cm away from the edge of the wall, then it’s a matter of chance and a much uglier gap appears. The door frame comes, as is known, at the end. Since building a house through a general contractor also has to work logistically, the tiler tiles all the way to the edge of the wall before the other gap is then complained about by the builder.

But I agree with you: where a door is located, you don’t need tiles.

Verleistung is a reasonable offer in my opinion. The local carpenters here work with it a lot. I see it this way, that the tiler cannot know which door frame you will get, as these also come in numerous thicknesses. For this reason, we coordinated with the tiler beforehand.

I don't find it that bad if it is visually well solved with decorative strips, silicone, or whatever, and you don't see the gap between the frame and the wall at first glance. In our case, we had a small gap (only maybe 3-4mm) between the frame and the tiles. The tiler had left a small margin for the frame as a precaution, so that what happened with you wouldn't happen. When there actually was a bit of space left, it was sealed with silicone. The frame, of course, only came after the tiles, and we preferred it that way. But as I said, I don't think the gap is dramatic; it can be fixed quickly and neatly.
