The thickness of the foundation slab depends on the subsoil, region, the further construction, and the loads to be carried. I personally find a construction variant without a basement incredibly pointless... but with foundation slabs without a basement, special attention should be paid to the frost skirt or a frost-resistant subsoil.

The floor structure is generally provided with insulation. A perimeter strip and insulation beneath the foundation slab make sense. The intersection with the wall structure is then no longer relevant here.

Why, because the slab with basement is automatically at frost-free depth?

Technically, this has rather little impact. Except that the floor slab lies in the frost-proof area and the ground temperature at this depth is much more constant. I personally cannot imagine a house without a basement. 1) I would miss all the storage space. From plants that have to be stored in winter to winter & summer clothing, to sports, leisure & vehicle accessories. 2) I would even miss the small workbench or craft room. 3) The entire relocation of the laundry room I would have somewhere in the upper floors and also the technology for heating, water & electrical systems. 4) Storing wine/ food supplies at a constant, cool temperature without electricity costs is also difficult without a basement. --> Conclusion: I could not do without a basement..

Ok, I thought that was purely for constructive reasons. We fully agree with your points and therefore are also building with a basement.

Hello everyone, we want/must build without a basement due to the geotechnical investigation, otherwise a white tank and surrounding measures to secure existing buildings would be necessary. It will be an age-appropriate timber frame house without steps with a mono-pitched roof in KfW 40+, with a small apartment on the upper floor. One provider has an uninsulated base slab with foundations, on top of that comes a screed with 250 mm, of which 160 mm is insulation. What do you think of this construction?
