Hello, dear fellow fans,
I ordered a Pax with the dimensions 250x60x236 and would like to use it regularly as a movable room divider. Has anyone here perhaps already had useful experience with this?

The wardrobe will stand on relatively smooth parquet flooring. Felt and Teflon seem only partially suitable to me, since a considerable weight must be expected when fully loaded. So, wheels? But which ones and how many? Actually, I worry less about the load capacity of the wheels than about the wardrobe material. Could the bottom break through? Better to screw it internally?

I would be grateful for suitable tips

Regards
Marc

Honestly? I would not place a cabinet of that size and weight freely in the room at all. Doors also have a weight that should not be underestimated – open both with a bit too much momentum and you'll quickly have the cabinet falling on top of you. That's why they are stabilized with brackets on the wall for a reason.

Besides that, if the cabinet is freestanding, you would still need to cover the back panel, as it is just a thin board without veneer.

Hey Nörgli,

important note I don’t install any doors at all and neither have children nor pets running around. Honestly, I’m not really worried about safety.

best regards

First of all, just this much: The floors cannot support the cabinet. Therefore, the rollers would have to be attached to the side walls. Since this allows the whole thing to be moved fairly easily, the rollers should be as large as possible. Large rollers with side mounting - I can't think of anything right now. That would mean large iron brackets on the side wall and floor and the rollers underneath. As far as safety is concerned, you have to consider all eventualities.

You can find suitable casters at Schwalb.

You also have to consider that if you use swivel casters, the support point is significantly below the cabinet depending on the rotation of the caster. This makes the whole thing even more unstable.

From a structural point of view, I would recommend:
1. Attaching a board under the cabinet to catch and distribute the weight. This board should be at least large enough for the side walls to rest on it. For example, 20mm multiplex.

2. To get more stability while pushing and also when stationary, this board should actually be chosen significantly deeper. So it would, for example, protrude 150 mm at the front and back; thus 90 cm deep instead of 60 cm.

And I would allow for at least 6, preferably 8 casters.

Hi Marc

do you just want to push the cabinet back and forth? I would recommend screwing a complete board, that is 250 x 58 cm, under the cabinet. I would recommend 25 mm multiplex as the board. For the wheels, I would take drilled wheels. They are almost flush and also hold up well. I would use 5 wheels along the length and 2 along the depth, so 10 pieces in total.
