Sometimes I wonder if your posts only read so snarky or if that is really your tone.. If such questions annoy you, then just don’t reply, because 1. it doesn’t help me at all.

What do you want? Information or just rambling? Your question: … is hereby answered. Question-answer. Sorry that nobody else lets a huge discussion flare up on your question here that takes up your time. And yes, because of feedback like yours, I keep my info short and concise :(

Don't take it so hard, it's warm, some people are fundamentally frustrated, sometimes because they don't get Amazon vouchers for voluntary help in a forum. Well...

But basically, that's how it is. Your baseboard adhesive won't pull all the cabinets off the wall. It will just stick right up to the cabinet and that's it. Aside from that, you shouldn't have placed your cabinets directly against the wall anyway. If there's 4cm of space, as recommended, it might be possible to fiddle the baseboards behind the cabinet.

One reason why I preferred to take the risk of having a small gap between the floor and baseboard in a year or, worst case, having to tear off a corner again... because going through all that effort in fully furnished rooms? No thanks. My neighbor also waited, I bet he still doesn’t have any baseboards up after 3 years. The motivation to start a construction site again in a furnished room is generally very low.

Too bad, our floor layer basically didn't give us a choice, it was clear from the beginning that the baseboards wouldn't be installed and I have to admit that I completely relied on his statements and his opinion because he is the professional and not me :) But well, now I know, and then the baseboards will only go where they are supposed to go. Otherwise, I won't have any baseboards at all for the next 3 years :D :D

Find the line of thought absurd, even tolerating really poor aesthetics for years (no moldings) to avoid the risk of poor aesthetics (gap between molding and floor).

It's like the electrical junctions for roller shutters/venetian blinds. The mess you’ve seen with spring covers or blank boxes, "because you might have to access it someday." Yeah great, IF you do have to access it, you then open the box and cover it afterward, but not with preemptive obedience. That looks permanently bad.

To be honest, we didn’t really think about it at all because we relied completely on the floor layer’s statements.

The floor layer didn’t tell us there would be a gap, but (as I understood it at the time) that the residual moisture in the screed first becomes noticeable on the baseboards because they can absorb water and swell, which might prevent the flooring from settling properly and cause waves in the floor.

Honestly, I don’t quite remember how much he told us about it and whether some of it might have stemmed from my constant “oh god, if then” thoughts.

But it can’t be changed now either, after the vacation it’s time to get to work :)
