Paint yourself!
I mean it seriously, abstract paintings are not that difficult and the price for the materials is reasonable and it’s also fun.
Watch various tutorials on YouTube, for example under Rakel technique. This is, simply put, not painting but spreading paint on a canvas with a large spatula. This creates interesting textures.
Apply texture paste on canvas and then paint over it. There are many ideas for which you don’t have to be a great painter, but the effect is still great. As I said, you can really get inspirations on YouTube.
And you can choose the color spectrum that you like yourself.
In the practice of a physiotherapist here in town, interesting paintings are hanging. All the same size, lots with texture, but among other things also simply painted green and then cows made of plastic (these Schleich figures) are glued on and the whole thing is really funny.
I once asked the physio whose paintings they are. He said: from my wife, she got boards, plaster and paint and was allowed to rage on them. And some really great things came out!
So don’t be shy.
Since we can’t afford real paintings either (at least mostly not the ones I really like) I also took up brush and spatula and I’m not an artist, but the pictures are always well received by our visitors.
Here are a few examples of the different techniques:
Rakel technique (like where the colors are so blurred):
With the spatula:
Painted and a thin glaze over it, which is partially wiped off again:
