After I almost single-handedly puttyed the entire house last year, replastered some areas, primed everywhere twice, and either painted or wallpapered, I can say: yes, it’s doable. But it takes time, it’s exhausting (the ceilings! Holy cow, your arms get tired after a while!) and at least the cleaning and puttying don’t look like a professional job. It doesn’t bother us, it’s good enough for us, and in the short term there were no craftsmen available anyway, so we saved a tremendous amount of money. But honestly; at some point I was really fed up and grateful for every helper — in some places I ended up working up to six times (replastered, puttied, primed twice, undercoated once, final coat, sometimes even smoothing transitions with acrylic). If you have the money, I would personally prefer to hire a professional. If you have enough helpers who have done this before, then give it a try. First get some practice in the less important rooms and in the end tackle the living room and kitchen^^.
By the way, everything with stuff from the hardware store. All the materials survived and can still be used. So crepe tape, acrylic, primer, paint, brushes, rollers, telescopic poles, gypsum plaster, putty, and textured plaster.
