Hello everyone,

we are currently considering which technology to use for access to our property, and since I haven’t found any survey in the forum about the popularity and experience with the individual systems, I just wanted to ask around.

Our front door provider recommends a fingerprint solution. You don’t have to carry anything, nothing can be spied on, you can’t forget anything, and it supposedly works well even for children. He offers the system eKey dLine. However, the extra cost for the motor lock and fingerprint is quite high.

Our garage door provider recommends a code keypad. You don’t have to carry anything, it always works, and a code can be passed on even without presence. He advises against fingerprint because it is significantly more expensive and many systems don’t work very well. The finger must be dry and clean. After a rain shower, sweating from jogging, or with dirty hands after gardening, you apparently can have problems getting in again. Therefore, they removed most systems from their program and recommend the code keypad.

As an alternative, of course, there is the classic key with all its advantages and disadvantages.

I would be interested to know what you decided or would decide on and what your experiences are. Do you have security concerns with the code keypad when it comes to children? Does fingerprint work for you in the rain?

Do you open the garage and front door with the same system, or do you have different solutions?

Best regards
Sam

We have a front door lock with a high security rating. It works, nothing can break, and the keychain is always with us anyway because of the cars. So far, we see no advantage in another solution.

I have FP and RFID and, of course, the "normal key" FP has actually worked a bit worse for me in winter in cold and wet conditions, that's why: Currently, I only use RFID (it is the fastest and most straightforward) You forgot RFID in your survey?

In my husband's family home, there was actually fingerprint recognition and a code, both a disaster when it was damp outside.

See it like
Key that works with gloves, during power outages, etc.
If I quickly go somewhere and cannot or do not want to insert a key, I leave the door unlocked. Then an elbow is enough

My experiences with motor locks are also rather bad. We have them in the office and they always jam during the change of seasons, so that on the first really warm and the first really cold days we have to call the customer service. However, this is still cheaper in an office with 20 employees than replacing the entire locking system when someone loses the key.
