WLAN repeater or access point?

we have a network cable connection in every room in our new house (EG, OG, UG approx. 140 m2 living space). (CAT-7 Simplex) Both WLAN and network cables are planned for us. We can either plan the router in the hallway on the ground floor, then spread the signal further to the basement and upper floor with a repeater. A CAT-7 duplex connection is planned in the hallway for this. Or plan the access point with the router in the basement. I don’t know which solution is better. Allegedly, the repeater does not work very well. But does anyone know if the access point is significantly better? If several access points are distributed in the house and connected to the network by cable. Where should the router be? In the basement? Will the WLAN reception on the upper floor be good? How does it work exactly? Thank you very much.

I would advise against using a repeater. With a repeater, the data rate drops significantly (up to half), and that can be crucial nowadays. Especially when it comes to streaming/VoIP/..., you might run into problems.

I would rather place an access point in the basement and one on the upper floor. That should - theoretically - also provide good coverage on the ground floor. Depending on the model you buy, you can configure the APs to perform so-called roaming. However, that is often high-end and requires some knowledge and skill in configuration.

Plan access point. I am glad when we get rid of our repeater. Roaming does not work reliably.

There are also discreet access points for the ceiling. For example, take a look at Ubiquiti. Pull LAN cables directly up to there.

Also a possibility.

Important point: If access point, I would strongly prefer to buy APs with Power over Ethernet and put a corresponding switch in the basement. (or a power supply in the basement ... is sometimes even included with the access point) Saves you the power adapter in the hallway/...

Alternatively, buy a very flat one and hide it behind a dresser or something. I wouldn’t know any special added value of an access point on the ceiling now.

Would also be for Accesspoint instead of Repeater.
