Don't you always have these cover strips because PU foam is sprayed between the window and the wall? Isn't that completely normal? Since PU foam is sprayed between the window and the wall, there has to be a small gap somehow, otherwise it wouldn't be possible?!? Or am I mistaken here?

In renovations without renewing the interior plaster, yes.
