Hello everyone,

I am about to have the acceptance inspection. My windows (Kömmerling) creak when opening – specifically the handle when operating it. However, this is not the case with all the windows. Even identical windows in different stories differ in this regard.

Do you know what might be wrong?

Thanks!

Is it a crackling sound or rather a click when snapping into the desired position?

What does the person who installed the windows say?

This applies throughout the entire process, from the starting position to the final position. Like with the [Glücksrad]. I haven’t been able to ask the [GU] yet, but I want to be prepared for an excuse.

I had the same problem:

The cause was that the frame was installed under tension.
It can be both twisted and distorted into a parallelogram shape.

A typical assembly error that occurs when the drill for the dowel holes in the wall
runs sideways.

The overall frequency speaks for this cause, but there are several – and they can coincide. Possibly, they only become disturbing when they add up to a certain extent.

The common error suspected by would typically be "unevenly distributed" in such a way. But

I think you feel it most strongly in the handle. The windows can also be carelessly adjusted, both the sashes in the frame and the locking pins. Delivering with a simple "just screw in" instead of actually completing an installation that also includes a proper adjustment is unfortunately the norm. As long as only eighty percent of customers complain, the installers consider the "quick and dirty" work a smart time saver.

So assume that your contractual partner would be more surprised if a complaint did not occur ;- (

That means the tension moves from one pin to the next "in a square circle," which speaks for a twisting of the frame, most likely caused by the "crooked screwing in" suspected by .

Although I am also experienced when it comes to GUs/GÜs and their subcontractors, if the inspection has not yet taken place, it could be normal for the window installer to come at the end to make adjustments. I mean, after the shell is sealed, so many things still happen on the construction site: the house settles, plasterers clean up, screed layers make a mess, painters and floor layers might still come, then maybe cleaning specialists come and clean in the literal sense. My father-in-law, a window installer for over 30 years, also hasn't adjusted my windows yet... So maybe take that into account during the inspection in terms of tone...
