How did you decide on the windows, rather large or normally small.

A bright house is nice, but large windows have disadvantages, cleaning, shading, curtains are all more elaborate. On the other hand, I can't imagine my house with conventional windows, with a perforated facade. How is it with you, any tips for cleaning etc.?

I find a mix nice. Small windows facing the street, large ones towards the garden, as long as no neighbors can look directly inside. You almost feel like you're in nature when the living or working room has large floor-to-ceiling windows. As for cleaning the panes, we don't take it so seriously, it is less noticeable than you might think.

Hello everyone,

since windows shape the house like hardly any other detail, you have to look at the whole thing. Does the window size fit the room, is the orientation correct, does the ratio of the wall openings to the wall surfaces fit, things like that. But an architect should take care of that.

What else you can consider: windows can bring heat into the house, even in winter. Large windows facing southwest, ideally not shaded by trees, can help save heating energy in combination with heat-storing floors. Tile, natural stone, and also parquet floors store the thermal energy of the sun's rays and release it to the room with a delay.

A fixed shading option above the windows ensures that the high summer sun does not shine deep into the interior.

Hello Lars, So clean windows are important to me. What use is the most beautiful view if I am disturbed by streaks and spots. Cleaning large windows is not that difficult either. That should not be an aspect when choosing the right windows.

you have problems. do you know what the price difference is between large (i'm thinking of 4-6m²) windows and regular ones?? not just the glass area, it’s also about hinges, lift-slide fittings, etc. it’s not just a few cents. sunlight gladly, but at reasonable costs and after all, you also have the garden.

Don't be so harsh with others. People have wishes. One doesn't think only about money. We live in a fairly normal house. Living room windows are big, otherwise railings and windows above. It's bright enough already. Sometimes I still wish there were no wall between the winter garden and my desk. And I love Japanese houses. It must be a pleasure to live in harmony with nature, simply being able to slide the wall away.
