Hello everyone,

we need to slowly give the electrician instructions on what to install where and how to parameterize it. I could use a little help figuring out what makes sense where and would like to ask you KNX users how you use what. Which sensors can be used in the classic way (without fancy components, our electrician cannot do that. I have to do that myself afterwards) best for which classics?

I am mainly interested in.

1. PM (presence detector) 2. BM (motion detector) 3. Switchable sockets

Your house is already standing (at least the shell). KNX extends into every trade if you fully implement it. So you are already quite late with the planning. There is a wealth of literature and also a KNX forum. However, this is quite "incomprehensible" for beginners. First, create your room book.
What about temperature sensors, CO2 sensors, brightness meters...
Do you have the weather station on your radar (e.g. for wind measurement regarding shading...), light control,...
You need different lines for inside and outside.
I would provide PM/BM everywhere so that you can expand later.
Implement it directly in hallways, toilets...
Switchable sockets at spots where a table/floor lamp might stand. Christmas tree, decorative lighting, etc. Outdoor sockets...
If you also plan irrigation, you could do that right away (actuators + transformer). The control lines just have to be laid outside.
House control, especially if it is to become smart, is not trivial and certainly not something where you can just say "one time KNX please."
Otherwise, you only get remote control or a "classic" electrical system realized via BUS.
Unfortunately, your electrician is probably a "wire puller" and not a system integrator. Good SIs are almost like unicorns.
Why do you have to tell the electrician how to parameterize it???
If that is really the case, I see only two options,
- find a good SI and have the whole thing planned and executed for money. This person would go through the things you need with you, tell you what is possible, etc.
- you are tech-savvy yourself and have the desire and time to do it yourself. Get literature, read up, browse forums... Buy an ETS and program everything yourself. Do you want to always call the electrician in the future when you want to change something?

It is important to lay a lot of BUS cable. Without "smart," classic electrical wiring is usually cheaper in a single-family house.

Good morning.,

I can only respond in detail later.
So much in advance, of course there is already a plan. It is more about finalizing the details now at the end. We will go through everything with the electrician soon and finalize exactly where what should go.
Fortunately, he is not completely clueless either. He has already done several projects, including larger ones. It’s just not his daily business.
As I said, more later!
But thanks already!

You just have to use a little imagination and think outside the box. Suddenly, you find a bunch of application possibilities. It is also very subjective. One person finds the notorious PM under the bed totally useful, while another can’t do anything with it and absolutely needs two manual switching points at the bed in the bedroom.

PM/BM = light, alarm, presence, absence, heating, cooling, ventilation, shading, etc.

Switchable sockets are important for scenes if you want to largely do without this here:

Unfortunately, I cannot contribute anything, but I am interested in the topic, since my Google-Fu is failing me - two questions about reading comprehension: BM = motion detector? PM =???

I can fully agree with that. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the time to familiarize myself with KNX before/during the construction. My partner (also the client) wanted to be able to “control the house via app.” The electrician, although equipped with KNX certificates but rather the type that "pulls wires," just did what was necessary. At some point shortly after the basic programming, I hit the emergency brake – bought the ETS myself and got into the topic. The visualization, scenes, logics have all been created by myself now, and often I get annoyed about what wasn’t or was incorrectly implemented (e.g., the door intercom, the garage door, the awning... without KNX coupling).

To recognize what you really want, however, you really have to delve deeply into the subject. Or simply find the unicorn from .
