Hello dear community,

my wife and I want to, who would have thought when you sign up here, plunge into the adventure of building a house. We have decided on the prefabricated house option. The house should have between 130 and 150sqm of living space. We are at the very beginning, nothing is fixed yet, no building plot etc. In the village, the entire new development area will only be developed next year. However, we want to benefit from the experiences of others as early as possible, hence this post here. Besides many other things to consider, I think the heating system represents one of the most important points. Almost all prefabricated house providers advertise the Kfw40 or 40+ house with air-to-air heat pump and controlled ventilation with heat recovery (fresh air heating technology). But I’m also thinking in parallel of the Kfw55 variant with pellet heating combined with a water-bearing fireplace in the living room and buffer storage. I have no idea about the costs yet. At first, we are actually concerned with the question: Is an air-to-air heat pump sufficient at all in the Black Forest climate? Efficiency okay? Do you have experience with controlled ventilation and indoor climate? I think there is a wealth of experience here. I have already read some posts on similar questions, but please don’t be mad at me if I strive for individual answers. Thanks in advance for reading and answering! If you have any questions, just ask

I would avoid an air-to-air heat pump in colder locations - it might work with KFW40, but the investment should already be cheaper.

Have offers created for you - based on that, you can then compare/validate costs and benefits.

Thank you for the answer! Yes, I will choose a standard house from various providers and have it offered to me in both versions. With a €50,000 difference, you can of course heat for many years.. However, I imagine a better indoor climate with the ventilation. And in summer, it is supposed to cool as well. Here, an experience value from people who have decided on this would be helpful.

With us, the controlled residential ventilation cools little or not at all... you just don't have to ventilate warm air in and have the option of ventilation without heat recovery at night (= moderate cooling) - but you can also open the window. Genuine cooling you will not get without an air conditioning unit. The indoor climate is always like with good ventilation.

I’ll join in since we are in a very similar situation. New build, prefabricated (unfinished) house and the question of how to heat. Air-to-air heat pump is the preferred method everywhere..

Although I’m now also considering a gas condensing boiler in combination with a masonry stove.

Air-to-air heat pump is very interesting for the provider, as it is relatively inexpensive to build.
