Which heat pump to use in monolithic construction?

Hello, we are currently planning our 165 sqm single-family house in the Sauerland. We want to build with 36.5 or 42.5 perforated bricks without additional insulation, as we are not fans of [WDVS]. Underfloor heating, probably no ventilation system, because it's too expensive. Since the village is not connected to the gas grid and we have no basement, so no space for, for example, pellets, we have to install a heat pump. A ground source heat pump would still cost €4500 more than an air source heat pump after deducting the [BAFa] subsidy. I have also often read that heat pumps make no sense with monolithic construction. What would you recommend to us?

What is the reasoning behind that?

That is nonsense. Please do not install a heat pump with the person who made this statement.

A heat pump basically becomes more efficient through two factors: 1. low heat demand, e.g. through insulation or ventilation system. 2. through as large and appropriately planned heating surfaces as possible for each room.

This has nothing to do with the construction method and it does not mean that a heat pump cannot work well in a newly built house that is not excessively insulated and without a ventilation system. More important than the insulation is the planning and mode of operation of the heat pump and the entire hydraulics.

When it comes to heat pumps, it is advisable to educate yourself. Keywords for searching: room-by-room heat load calculation, no buffer storage, no individual room control, modulating, not oversized, horizontal ground collector.

Oh dear, quite a bit of educational work still needs to be done here.

You do have other options besides just a heat pump. Just because there is no gas network in the village doesn’t mean you can’t heat with gas. You would just need a gas tank and possibly other measures to meet the [Energieeinsparverordnung] requirements (solar? More insulation? Controlled residential ventilation?)

Next topic: You shouldn’t just push the topic of ventilation aside because someone said a ventilation system would be too expensive overall.

Where are you building in Sauerland? At what altitude? Here, an air heat pump could potentially be problematic or inefficient.

The height is 348 m above sea level. Yes, I know about the gas tank. According to research, that is not supposed to be efficient?! Therefore, I decided on a heat pump, but I still don't know which hot water one.

With photovoltaic systems, heat pumps, and optional ventilation systems, a house is modern and future-proof equipped and can largely operate without fossil fuels. Alternatives certainly exist, but gas tanks and solar thermal systems are not among them in my opinion. Especially not in new buildings.

Ventilation is comfort, photovoltaic pays off on its own, heat pumps should be well planned.
