Hello,

for our garage extension we need an entrance door. There are these inexpensive steel doors and insulated doors in the same look as the sectional door. We have seen neither the one nor the other door, in our garage showroom none was installed. Is a thin steel door sufficient or is it not recommended? What did you choose?

Best regards
Sabine

You can't say that in general. If you come directly into the house from the garage, the door definitely has to provide a certain level of security. In our case, the garage is only built onto the house, but without access to the house. We will use a steel corner frame door. They are quite cheap, around 150-200€. They are galvanized and, in our case, primed white. You can then paint them however you like. We will paint it in the color of the window frames. It won't be 100% the same, but very similar. A side entrance door with glass from the window manufacturer would have cost us over 900€. A door like that from the garage door manufacturer also costs in that range. So it always depends on the intended use and which one you like visually. And of course, how much you want to spend.

Does having a door in "Sektionaltoroptik," meaning this insulated version, result in dents forming less quickly, or does it make no difference? You are not supposed to enter the house here, only the garage extension.

Best regards

A different aspect: where should the door go, i.e.: is it seen together with the gate (next to it or at an angle) or does it go on the back, and visually are the two thus "emancipated" from each other?

We have a door from the prefabricated concrete garage to the garden, a standard door from the manufacturer. To me, it seems like the cheapest model. I would never do it that way again, IMHO saved in the wrong place. I’m always afraid that the handle will tear out of the metal sheet, everything is quite thin and a bit flimsy.

At the time of purchase, this was not specified in detail, unfortunately, but in hindsight, it was also not possible to check all the details.

We also have the Hörmann steel sheet standard door on the side. The door is not a designer piece, truly just functional. But it’s actually not flimsy. Well, at some point I’ll put a nicer one in there. For now, it does its job. And certainly longer than one would like. Karsten
