What I wanted to say with my "story": It makes little sense to complain on an Ikea fan page******. At least that's how I see it. In case of problems, I would rather contact Ikea directly. And expecting an item to be available at all times—I find that exaggerated. When I shop, something is always out of stock or not yet available from time to time. That is human. And how is the poor Ikea employee supposed to offer you an alternative?

If I may share a little insider information..

We ourselves constantly have problems with the stock of items. I am currently busy with the Christmas shop. Not a single article comes in such a quantity that I can decorate the store with it AND still have enough left for sale. Especially with new items, you don’t know how well or poorly they will sell, so the stock is rather limited. If the item sells well, it’s gone in no time and latecomers are left empty-handed. If it sells poorly, the warehouse overflows. With 14,000 products, any layperson can imagine what happens then..

As far as I know, when an item is currently out of stock in the country, they ask which branch has enough of it. Then we order some from there and the customer is informed as soon as their item arrives with us. But of course not for products priced at 4.99. More likely for beds, sofas, kitchens, etc.
