Well, what can I say ... I tend to make a science out of seemingly simple things. Not always an advantage. Since I have long found beech hedges very nice, I, as a property owner, did some reading (in the past I would have had to go to the library, now you can do it at night with Google) ... Well, never mind, anyway ... the hornbeam, a birch, comes earlier, the beech or copper beech, both beeches, somewhat later; but they stay longer. We chose beech. Planted last autumn, all plants (40 m, 3 per m) look good!

Just a quick note about the shops...

For most trees, a height is given, wouldn't the trunk circumference be more interesting?

For some, the trunk circumference is also given.

I think this is only interesting for large trees. The 120 cm saplings only have a mini circumference.

Interesting then, besides the height, is also the growth habit, the pruning tolerance, and how much space the tree will need in width afterwards...

So better buy trees at the nursery after all!
