What turned out to be "unexpectedly" good?

Unexpectedly actually nothing, since we have not made any compromises,

Descending from top to bottom by priority.

- Lots of window area on the ground floor (really above everything else)
- Photovoltaic system
- Raffstores
- 3m lift-and-slide door on the ground floor
- 3m fixed glazing next to the lift-and-slide door (another lift-and-slide door would have been pure waste of money with this floor plan)
- Tiles on the ground floor (completely)
- Large open space >55sqm
- Staircase window on the upper floor
- No floor-to-ceiling windows on the upper floor
- Chimney (I can’t say anything about it yet, since it has not been approved)
- Controlled residential ventilation (actually ended up at the bottom) - I expected an outdoor feeling, you know what I mean? It just isn’t stuffy! That is just too little for me. Annoying mind games :-(
- Ground heat exchanger

I really hope that the last two items will now show their strengths in terms of energy savings in autumn, winter & spring.

Could I get a brief explanation of what you like about these things? Why no floor-to-ceiling windows on the upper floor?

I know what you mean. I call it canned air. It's air, only the other senses are not addressed. No sounds, no smells - especially after rain or in spring or the snow. It's just air. It's still brilliant. You don't have to ventilate anymore, yet you are not sitting in your own mustiness, and for the rest, open the window.

if you build with Town & Country, then you have a clear view from above in the stairwell of the "cut edge" of the concrete ceiling on the ground floor

And the latter probably because they are often delivered in the end, especially since the placement options are quite limited with larger window fronts.

- Photovoltaic system -> we are now in the 8th week and have a consumption of 500kWh, 1300kWh have already been produced. It’s a great feeling to know that something on the house partly pays for itself.
- Raffstores -> All neighbors who don’t have Raffstores facing south keep their shutters down all day so it doesn’t get too hot inside the house. With Raffstores you get shading and it’s still quite bright!
- 3m lift-and-slide door on the ground floor. We also have 2 double-wing doors (west side dining room and kitchen) that we like to use, but the comfort when opening and closing simply makes the extra cost (at least for me) of the lift-and-slide door worth it! Also, with the floor plan you don’t have to consider the inward-swinging double-wing doors when placing furniture.
- 3m fixed glazing next to the lift-and-slide door (another lift-and-slide door would have been a pure waste of money with this floor plan) -> At first we planned 2 lift-and-slide doors (south dining room, living room). The living room lift-and-slide door would actually have been used 99% less (you can’t go through several openings at the same time – but that also depends on our floor plan).
- Staircase window on the upper floor -> The staircase is brighter 24/7 than without a window, yes, even at night.
- No floor-to-ceiling windows on the upper floor -> more possibilities to place furniture -> but this is subjective, we don’t like furniture in front of the windows.
