Hello,
we have recently become homeowners. That means we have a plot of land and are looking for a suitable house.
This week we spoke with several construction companies. There were different statements regarding the exterior wall of a solid house: one company said that a 36 cm Poroton brick with 2 cm thermal insulation plaster meets the thermal insulation requirements. Another company told us it has to be a 20 cm Poroton brick with 10 cm Styrofoam insulation.

We actually tend more towards the 36 cm Poroton brick with thermal plaster insulation, but due to the different statements, we are now confused.

What is better in terms of insulation values? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both options? What are the price differences?

I wish everyone a nice weekend and hope for help with our decision.

Hello,
What is it about? Merely meeting the requirements, an economical overall concept, or maximum funding?
The economical reduction of transmission heat losses is closely related to the chosen heating concept. With conventional heat generators, usually slightly better insulation is necessary because the consumption is higher than the demand. With heat pumps, it is the other way around.
Insulating plaster usually brings little

Hello Euro,
thank you for your quick response. But I didn’t really understand it.
It probably wasn’t a good idea to mention our tendency. In principle, it’s not about maximum funding. And of course, we want an economical overall concept. But I didn’t want to discuss our concept, rather to know what experiences/ knowledge other homeowners have about the mentioned walls. But if it is still important: we want to install underfloor heating with a gas condensing boiler and heat exchanger.
I’m looking forward to further answers.

Regards, Angela
PS. This is my first time building and I have to fight my way through a multitude of new terms and requirements. So please be understanding if I ask for simply understandable explanations.

Hello Angela,

I am actually quite sure that you mixed up what you heard a bit. Either 36.5 cm monolithic and 1 cm interior and 2 - 2.5 cm exterior plaster or 20 cm masonry and 14 or 16 cm ETICS?

Kind regards

Hello,
Here I would strongly recommend thinking again
With an understanding of the overall context, laypersons are usually overwhelmed. Even so-called "experts" have significant problems here. The overall context or competing demands between building, climate location, user behavior, and system technology are very complex. Every construction project is specific and individual. What makes sense in A leads to a money pit in C

Best regards

NB: Low heating costs already start with the choice of building site!

It is quite possible that I mixed something up a little. Your description is correct.
And what are the advantages and disadvantages of these exterior walls?

Regards
