We have now almost finished our outbuilding. Now we are thinking about what to do as a wall base at the bottom, in the areas where there will be no paving (about 50%).

Normally, a gravel border would be common. However, I am unsure if the effort is really necessary. The mason mentioned something about "Kantensteinen," which I currently have no idea about.

What have you done, and does anyone know other alternatives? Does anyone have lawn right up to the base? If so, how is the protection against the wall done? Pictures?

he means the curb with coarse gravel stones 1-3cm in diameter.

We have a 30 cm splash guard, the problem for us is actually that hardly any grass grows directly at the splash guard....reflection heat from the sun too strong not enough water no idea....

We have the same problem. The east side is particularly bad.

This is how we do it around the whole house. Pebbles go into the gap between the wall and the curb stone. The curb stone is set in concrete. There is foil and sealing slurry on the building's wall. Under the pebbles is fill sand. Under the terrace, there is also a drainage. In front of the house it is unnecessary because the ground slopes downwards from the house wall to the street.
The lawn problem is due to the concrete and the sand. That will sort itself out over time as the soil near the curb stone recovers. Karsten

Kaho, the little stones are the protection. If rain splashes on them, it doesn't matter; if it splashes on black soil, the wall is soaked. Karsten
