Hello guys,

since the mason had the empty conduits or the drain come out in the middle of the wall and accordingly left out the bricks, the question arises how best to seal these (see picture)

What would you use? Expanding foam? Screed?

Thank you very much

Steffen

Outer wall, inner wall, basement? Where is that?

I would tend to close holes from penetrations in walls with plaster and masonry mortar (mixed with some frost-resistant construction adhesive, which adheres much better for laypeople) in outer walls depending on the depth with mortar matching the stone (light mortar) and always with repair mortar in the floor (even if these are usually not officially approved as screed).

On another note, why are you asking the question? The how shouldn't really concern you unless the bricklayer himself doesn't know what to do. Are you going to continue on your own from now on DIY style?

Foam and silicone replace the precision.

Wall holes should be filled with mortar and larger holes worked in with bricks.

Floor holes are normally shuttered from below and filled with concrete from above.

This is the interior wall of the garage or in the floor slab the empty conduits coming from the house. The bricklayer is gone and before the plasterer comes, the holes must be closed.

Then the plasterer can just do it. Just because you’re building for the first time doesn’t mean he’s never seen something like this before. Give him twenty bucks and get the material for him or he’ll bring it after you’ve shown him.
