Water demand garden/year --> Is a cistern worthwhile?

Have finished the earthworks for the cistern today. Would have liked to have more, but due to the very rocky soil, we were only able to make space for 7000 liters. We are not doing this for economic reasons. It is more for the feeling.

Economically, a cistern is rather not profitable. I myself have a cistern of 10 m³ and two containers of 1 m³ each (bed about 70 m²) but only because I work in construction and got it for free. Nice thing to have if it's there, but building one specifically, I cannot recommend from a business perspective.

Are you really talking about wastewater charges at 2,xx €/m³? Well, I have moved around Germany quite often, but everywhere the wastewater charges were around 4,xx nowadays rather 5,xx €. Nevertheless, we will not build a cistern but a garden water meter and thus only pay for the fresh water.

In our area, the sewer usage fees for wastewater are 1.62 € per cubic meter.

No. It’s not worth it financially. But I think it’s a cool thing.
