Hello,
I would like to use the wall panels offered by Ikea to protect the wall behind our stove from splashes. I suspect the wall behind is a plaster wall that has simply been painted white, so I am a bit hesitant to glue the panels with silicone because I have no experience with how to remove them later. The solution is actually only intended to be temporary for 1-2 years.

Does anyone have experience with this? Can these also be drilled firmly in place, or does anyone have another/easier solution?

Thank you in advance.

To my knowledge, only stone and acrylic panels are glued.

The standard panels, prefabricated, are attached using hanging rails, which are drilled, so under load you probably don't even need dowels with drywall.

The rails for fastening (902.010.18) seem to have been discontinued. Maybe Nayla can say something about it. I would not have major concerns about gluing silicone on drywall painted with wall paint. The paint should peel off before the wall is damaged. However, there will probably be some tedious filling work. The installation instructions in German

yes indeed something seems to be happening there. We have received the rails, but in both ikeas nearby only the metal panels are still available, which we only find moderately nice.

Panels in white are nowhere to be found here.

Now we are just as stuck as before.

Hi,

to my knowledge, only the Fastbos with the white tile pattern are being discontinued. However, I won’t be back at the store until next week and can only check then. A fairly reliable sign whether something is being discontinued is if you enter the item number on Ikea.de and see if ordering online is still possible. If yes, it is usually just a supply issue; if the item is no longer available there either, it is generally completely discontinued.

Regarding attaching Fastbo, opinions vary greatly. Personally, I am not a fan of the hanging rails. On the one hand, I don’t like the framing of each individual piece over a long surface, and on the other hand, cleaning is a pain. Especially when cooking, a lot of "gunk" accumulates in the joints and turns dark. In the end, you can only clean the pieces with a soft toothbrush or dismantle them completely. It’s better to glue the Fastbos flush next to each other for a smooth, easy-to-clean surface. Of course, the Fastbos then have to be glued on with silicone or construction adhesive. Small dots in the upper corners are enough for that. Except for the panel itself, which only weighs a few grams and stands on the countertop, they don’t have to hold anything. You really shouldn’t tape the entire panel. When removing it, just go into the corners with dental floss or a utility knife blade and loosen the adhesive.

Best regards

Nayla

PS: By the way, if you buy a custom-made piece, it is also only glued to the wall with silicone; there is no mounting hardware from the manufacturer unless it is a glass panel.
