Hello everyone,

does anyone have experience with cladding in living spaces? I am considering what type of wall design I should choose. In the process, I came across cladding because I would like to give my living room wall a natural stone look. What about mold formation in this case?

Also, should cabinet parts be attached to this? Would that be disadvantageous?

So mold formation would be new to me specifically because of a facade brick or tile wall. For example, there are plastic panels that have the appearance of a brick wall, which I personally do not like that much. Then there are panels which I believe are cast from lightweight concrete and create this look. There are tiles that produce this appearance and you can build it yourself, stone by stone. Load capacity is a good question that I prefer not to answer much. Depending on what you choose, there will be differences here.

There are also flexible thin veneers that harden on contact with adhesive (Elastolith), they also look great, suitable for both exterior and interior. To hang cabinets, I think you definitely have to go a good way through the veneer into the wall.

I would also want to rule out mold growth, especially since it is not supposed to be installed in a damp room. There are claddings made of different materials, preferably gypsum and concrete, but also wood and even some made of real natural stone. The appearance ranges here from "ancient Greece" to rustic brick walls, so one should be able to find something suitable. The final impregnation is probably important. We have also decorated the walls in our offices with such claddings in various ways, it looks good and is very low-maintenance. If cabinets are to be hung, I would rather recommend those made of concrete, as it is certainly easiest to drill the appropriate holes here. And make sure that the surface is as even as possible, many claddings are clearly textured, so that a cabinet might hang "crooked." Possibly, the project could also be designed so that the claddings are only laid around the cabinets or stop just below them.
