Hello everyone,

I would like to install a video camera at our front door so that you can see who is standing there. However, we don’t have power there (only the usual "Klingeldraht" with which the doorbell is currently connected).

My wish would be a simple camera with a battery (and a supplied monitor with wireless transmission) that can be triggered via radio/WiFi so that it turns on and you can see who is at the door.

I have already searched a lot on the internet and found nothing suitable. Otherwise, it would also be an option to replace our current doorbell with another system. However, this would have to work with the power from the "Klingeldraht"...

I would be very grateful for tips and information.

Best regards Sebastian

How about the Netatmo Presence? We have installed it, it works perfectly and can distinguish between people, vehicles, animals, and other movements. It also serves as a floodlight and everything is sent directly to your phone.

There are already providers. (such as ring with their "Video Doorbell 2") Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who doesn't first send the data to China and back... I guess that is also what the aforementioned Netatmo does.

Thank you for the tips. Then I will take a closer look. Maybe I can still lay a cable...

Hello,
I had the same issue. I then decided on the Reolink 2.
The camera is activated by a perfectly functioning PIR motion sensor and even records when an SD card is inserted. Furthermore, the system has a very good microphone and a speaker. The camera comes with a battery that is supposed to last quite long. I use the solar panel from Reolink for power supply. Meanwhile, I have five cameras of this type in operation and am very satisfied with them.

Best regards

How child-friendly is something like that?

We are also considering getting something where the child can see who is outside the door. So not with a phone, but rather a fixed tablet or something similar that switches on automatically.
