Underfloor heating on the ground floor and upper floor, radiators in the basement?

Hello Andreas,

Very economical if the basement is to be used temporarily as an office space, etc. 120 mm costs more upfront but less in the long run – with light tempering of individual rooms –

Without "bridging the different supply temperatures," low-temperature radiators as described further below would be required.

Alternative: You install a mixer in between, then you can install the "normal" radiators. This should be the upfront cheapest method in terms of equity plus installation, although I consider the widespread installation of underfloor heating more reasonable; especially since you will be constructing a basement from precast concrete elements.

Rhenish regards

Building expert, what are the 2 cm supposed to bring or what do they save you annually in heating costs and cost more for purchasing? Our structural engineer calculated 100mm as sufficient for residential use – of course with the buried basement. When skimming through various construction blogs, I often came across 8-10 cm. Only Viebrockhaus (I think) mentioned something about crazy 20 cm...

Just asking neutrally – do you understand?

Hi,

sorry, I may have expressed myself unclearly.

Back to the start:

The 7,500 euro surcharge is currently only for the underfloor heating on the ground floor and upper floor. I find that quite cheeky, but I hope I can still negotiate the price down. Underfloor heating is fixed for the ground floor and upper floor, the only question is what surcharge we have to pay. But that is not the subject of my question.

It is only about the basement and what type of heating can be installed there. In the standards of the various general contractors you will find all variants:

    [*]no heating at all
    [*]electric radiators
    [*]water radiators on the wall
[*]underfloor heating in the basement as an option

For us, the question now is how to heat the basement cost-effectively and efficiently.

No heating and electric heating are ruled out for us.

So the options left are

· water radiators on the wall

· underfloor heating

I should perhaps have mentioned that we currently live in a modern house (built in 2011) according to the KfW 70 standard at that time. (Rented, and now we are building ourselves). And there we have a waterproof basement with radiators on the wall. Since we also have radiators on the ground and upper floors there, we run slightly higher flow temperatures, it should be around 45-50 °C. The radiators then respond quickly.

The heating costs for the house are already very low, we consume 8,500 kWh on 130 sqm living space plus 50 sqm heated basement area including hot water preparation. You can’t complain about that.

But in this house we have experienced that you have to heat a waterproof basement, otherwise you will have problems with humidity.

And that is why I want a heating system in the basement that can run continuously.

Best regards,

Andreas

Think especially about a ventilation system in the basement - then you will have no problem with the humidity.

We rarely go below 120 mm if the basement is to serve as a kind of "living space." I don’t question that either; our experts know why they don’t go below this value.

I wrote that *I* consider it economical. That doesn’t mean it can be transferred 1:1 to any other construction project.

Rhenish greetings

My parents don't even have perimeter insulation in their 1987 house, but the basement is living space and warm - please don't ask me why that is.
