Hello dear people,

I wanted to get your opinions regarding my new semi-detached house construction.

I want to have underfloor heating installed throughout the entire house. Now I am wondering which heating system I should use. I want to spend as little as possible. After careful consideration, the alternatives left are condensing gas boiler with a hot water storage tank and photovoltaic system OR an air-to-water heat pump. Especially regarding the underfloor heating, I am wondering if the gas alternative makes sense. The disadvantage of the air-to-water heat pump is the noise of the outdoor unit, as well as the high investment costs. Furthermore, a lot can go wrong during installation.

I would appreciate your opinions!

Are you sure you mean photovoltaics and not solar?

Believe me, everything speaks for gas..

We faced a very similar decision and really struggled with it.

I am fundamentally convinced of the functionality of an air-to-water heat pump and am sure that heat pumps will become even more of an alternative in the future than they already are.

Especially with underfloor heating, these can work very efficiently and pay off economically in addition to the eco-karma.

In the end, however, we decided on gas. The noise of the outdoor unit, the somewhat difficult conditions for proper installation in our garden, and the higher electricity costs were too many counterarguments to accept the additional cost.

Even though I can "justify the investment" over many years, I already have to cover the costs and, in this case, co-finance them. We had a bit of the feeling that with an air-to-water heat pump, we would get neither fish nor fowl. If the budget had been more generous, I think I would have chosen a geothermal heat pump. As it is, it has remained "classic" with gas and solar.

I know...
As someone who also wants to take long hot showers sometimes, enjoys bathing, and is planning a spacious house, I have now spent weeks researching this...
Result so far: Gas

Geothermal energy might have been an idea, but there are two poor rock layers here that shift against each other, which poses the risk of the shaft being crushed. And surface collectors are not possible.

Of course, we will have a precise calculation done again at an advanced planning stage, but so far it looks heavily like gas. A tip I received is to have the underfloor heating designed so that one could later switch to a heat pump. However, I still need to find out exactly what is required for this or whether compromises have to be made.

That should generally be done regardless of the type of heating.
