The purpose can be questioned. A fireplace produces radiant heat, which feels completely different from the warming of the air by the floor surface. In this and in the coziness, I see a purpose. I would rather "sacrifice" the TV than the fireplace. Everyone is just different.
We would never give up our fireplace; its regular use for heating purposes was even a key parameter of our building project.
In combination with a technically inherently slow floor heating system, I consider it individually worth checking to what extent this can work for me. For me, it was always much too warm and I had to partially "heat it out" not to be too hot.
Basically, however (without underfloor heating), my recommendation would always be: Go for a fireplace! Maybe I am mistaken here or can only report about my own experience with underfloor heating.
Regarding the other planning ideas, an older saying from our old construction foreman comes to mind, who said: In summer, people plan huge windows and terraces and in winter huge heating systems and even space for the Christmas tree. The season in which the planning takes place apparently also influences the house being planned.
The idea of the recessed staircase mentioned by sounds exciting and it would really be interesting to see it realized in a drawing.
