If I have measured correctly, the total room is well over 700 cm wide inside? I find the dividing sofa more than unfortunate because it splits a larger room back into small units.

Well, our sofa is placed to the right of the door and then you still have almost four meters to the TV. Our room is also 11 meters long, so it handles a division better or actually I even find it really pleasant here that you have such a separated living area. However, separated is relative; due to the 100 cm high sofa it doesn't feel genuinely separated.
