Hi! We have a North German problem – the weather is changing and it’s getting stormy here right now. With the summer temperatures today, we set up and used our (brand new :() cantilever umbrella. Now we wanted to close it in the evening, but when cranking counterclockwise, the umbrella doesn’t close, instead the crank falls into our hand. It unscrews itself from the thread. There was a small screw inside, we tried to screw it back in, but when we turn counterclockwise again – it falls out again. This is our first (and probably last) cantilever umbrella, can anyone give us quick advice on how to get the thing closed without the crank, preferably without destroying it? I didn’t find anything great on Google. If I leave it open, it will probably be three properties down tomorrow. :(

that is probably a small grub screw that prevents the crank from unscrewing backwards from the thread. Somewhere on the shaft there must be a recess where the grub screw fits exactly when it is in place. Without looking closely at the crankshaft, insert the crank in the only correct position and then tighten the grub screw well (don't overtighten!). Otherwise, take some good pictures so we can look at the problem.

By the way, I'm still looking for such a [Schirm], do you think it will fly all the way to Münsterland? :p

I just looked at it again, so the small screw does exist, it doesn’t even have a Phillips head. I can even fit the small parts back together visually. The problem is that I can just push the small screw into its "thread" with my finger—so without a screwdriver. Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold anything anymore, I’m afraid. Therefore, even if we cautiously screw it in, since there doesn’t seem to be a thread, it gives way immediately when turned backwards, and then I have the crank in my hand again. The umbrella stays open. Is there a way to close such an umbrella without the crank?

presumably a gearbox that does not turn backwards by itself (I can't think of the technical term for one right now...) But a photo would really help, otherwise we have to guess

Working on it - first had to take the photos, then sync with the PC, cable not handy right now because it always goes through the drive, but since I hadn't synced in a while, it had to upload 2-week-old videos first... :D Anyway, here are the pictures and thanks for your help. I also just contacted the seller, but I really don't know how to return it if I can't close it.
