Too old to build at 50 already?

I wouldn’t let myself be discouraged by the TV shows about building. The shows are all fake anyway. And to make the show exciting and get enough viewers, something always has to go wrong.

How expensive a used one is also depends on the current real estate market. If there are many houses available, the price automatically goes down. Maybe you should simply get more offers than just the one for 115,000. And time is always important for such things. Just don’t take the first one you see. Do you know anything about electrical work? If yes, you could do it all yourself. But if not, all those costs come on top and they’re not small. And that’s not the only thing that needs to be done on this house.

So honestly, I can't imagine how 130k euros for the house + [Grundstück] should be enough. And on top of that without equity?! I still wish you all the best that it works out!

So you are definitely not too old... In my opinion, that is the best age for building, because you possibly already have experience etc.

Building a house is something exciting, something new. I work in the house construction industry. And now I will turn 50 this year!. And yes, we are building new. With a lot of experience I know I am building for myself and my wife. New, simple, plain, but effective. For us, not for the neighbors. Today the children are about to fly the nest, (we need many drywall partitions) and our parents have recently passed away. Finally, the desire for the small island drove us last year and we are not euphoric but rational about it. It is OUR next project after raising the children, caring for the elderly, etc. Why not! We are still young, have energy and a huge advantage over young builders - my calculation - can realistically assess the bank and ourselves. And the best thing is, when the house is paid off in 10 years, we won’t have to worry about renovation for the new build anymore. The house we built when we were 30 we were able to sell very well in current times and we would have needed our retirement for a renovation.

Seriously? How many sqm should the house (little house) have? 60? It can't be more if I'm calculating with 1500 + personal contribution. On top of that, there are many additional construction costs that are simply "forgotten" here. Sure, you can build with 50... but if there is no equity with 50, you probably did something wrong and should rather leave it. Exception: You have a really good income... then I wonder again why there is no equity?
