I don’t know, but as I read it, there was a house that could be sold for a good price. That it would be nonsense without equity is clear, but that is not what is being talked about here?! So take it easy. It’s a normal path for many parents: - build a house - enjoy the house with children - children move out and the house becomes too big - the house is sold and something smaller is purchased. I think such an approach is good. I am currently experiencing the opposite in my own family, where the grandparents (both mine AND my wife’s) missed the chance to find something smaller, better suited for old age. Now the relatives are stuck with clearing out the houses.
