As an online retailer, I'm blowing my horn loudly. The generation of the [Tante Emma Laden] in small towns should by now slowly be extinct. For those who still haven't understood: We have the Internet now! In theory, anyone can work and live wherever they want, whenever they want. With my small business, I've rented space in the small town among many vacant shops. Well, I don't care about walk-in customers. And so I'm considering buying one of these renovation-needing old shacks to set up a proper store there now. Just for fun. The actual sales happen online. But I don't want to live here - far too cramped and ugly. I'm glad about my new building in the countryside with a garden and a lake behind the house.

Sure, online trading works everywhere as long as there is Internet. That often already fails in rural areas. And life is more than trading. Can the kids go to school without driving dozens of kilometers? Doctor? Dentist? Edeka Rewe Lidl? Is there culture? Post? Etc. Many don’t even know that. But as a Schleswig Holsteiner, you know why our state has places with such telling names as Elend and Ekel. If you want to find them, look near Erfde, the undisputed center of the area.... seriously, even with DSL 50k, you wouldn’t want to run a webshop there yourself. Karsten

Those are conditions like in Siberia with you. :D Here, it's not quite so "miserable." But in terms of landscape, we're stuck with coal here.

I can no longer listen to the whining about city apartments to some extent. When will people realize that as a single mother working as a hairdresser, I simply cannot live in a loft apartment in the city center? Yes, the city is expensive, and yes, you can only live there if I can afford it. Grandma this and grandma that – that's life. Low earners live on the outskirts or outside. That's sorted out and is harsh but not necessarily antisocial. That's just how Monopoly works. If you don't want that, you have to vote SED again.

Not everyone even lived in the capital during Erich's time. By the way: Wandlitz is also the sticks – does anyone know how fast the DSL is there nowadays? ;-)

Well, but the hairdresser lived in the middle of the city next to the party secretary. Didn’t matter. You could be glad if you had a place to live at all. Most were more like cavemen. :)
