And with us, something from 1.5 to 2 would have resulted mathematically.. no thanks.

Ours are not shorter. The overflow occurs through the door frames.

I am also wondering where the supposedly better spot would be. When I come in from changing tires or from the playground with 2 children, having the sink right by the entrance door is perfectly placed. That's why I would never put a smaller sink there...

Toilet near the entrance is simply practical.
How often does it tinker or get a bit louder with the window open and someone is standing at the door.
In the house, it is rarely so quiet that you can hear it from far away.
Door to nothing smells.
In times of ventilation systems, the smell is gone quickly anyway.

Otherwise, it is something natural. No matter whether poor or rich, young or old, it does not smell like roses for anyone.

Then the engineer is just too shy. He has to pinch himself together and not go to the bathroom :-P

Permanently tilted open...
1. does not mean that the toilet is permanently in use and thus noises and odors constantly emanate from the room
2. most nowadays have a ventilation system, so opening the window is no longer necessary
3. such a window invites burglary, so it should be avoided whenever possible
