Hello everyone,

We have bought a house, built in 1989, timber construction, 150m² living space, 1 Ar plot, photovoltaic system, gas/wood heating. The basic structure is good, meaning the roof and masonry make a solid impression, windows and insulation as well, also the floor plan is really nice for us. The basement shows no signs of moisture, so there is no need to do anything there.

We only want to renovate the interior. Completely floors, walls, ceilings. Is there a rule of thumb for a rough cost estimate and renovation duration?
The renovation will be done entirely by ourselves, experience is available, we just lack an overview at the moment and thus an approach for reasonable budget planning!
We don't want fancy equipment, just a good medium standard.
The biggest items will certainly be the bathroom and kitchen, but we will leave the kitchen out, as we get it for free.

Possibly a wall breakthrough is planned, as there are 4 rooms + bathroom on the upper floor and we want to split one room roughly half and half into bedroom and bathroom.

Thanks for your answers,

Best regards Surfer

It makes a difference whether you lay laminate over carpet or want to tear out the tiles for a new installation. The former can be done by quick and skilled hands within a day for one room; the latter can take a month if thick-bed installation, cracks in the screed, and height differences make life difficult.

An office person will throw in the towel after the third day...

The same applies to walls.

Correct,

overlaying is out of the question, the old one will be removed and the new one properly laid. Time-wise, 2-3 hours of net working time are available every evening + weekends, on average I expect about 5 people.

You did not understand my answer. It depends on which material is replaced by which... Who wants to do something here and what level of knowledge they (you) have. ...and one should be careful with the included use of tipsy manpower – they are often gone faster than there. Offered help usually applies to an afternoon or a room, but not to an entire house ;)

Greetings

As a client, you usually don't get anything done yourself on weekends. At least that's how it is for me. When there are so many helpers, everyone has a question or is looking for tools. I then help sporadically throughout the house whenever someone needs help or advice. You also always have to see whether things are going according to your own wishes.

Otherwise, the question remains whether any electrical work needs to be done or not.

Removing wallpaper from the wall is usually done by two people at a rate of about 2 rooms per day. (The girls at our place always did that.) Putting up new wallpaper feels like one day per room.

As a tip: in the 2-3 hours after work, you spend a lot of time at the hardware store to make sure there is enough material for all the work on the weekend.

A new bathroom quickly takes about 2 months.
