We want to build new. Through experience at work, I am really enthusiastic about a vinyl floor (we are also getting underfloor heating). So the decision for living and sleeping rooms has already been made. Until now, I thought tiles would be best for the kitchen and hallway. Or vinyl here as well? What are your experiences?

I have never experienced a vinyl floor that didn't have some kind of smell. I wouldn't install it in my house with underfloor heating - therefore definitely more tile than vinyl.

Our floor doesn't smell... and I don't like tiles. We have vinyl everywhere except in the bathroom and we think it's great.

Here as well. Glued down on the ground floor so that there really are no problems with water in the hallway and kitchen. I am mostly barefoot or in socks and find tiles terribly cold underfoot. And in summer and during transitional seasons, the often-cited argument of underfloor heating doesn't hold.

We have good experience with glued vinyl, which has recently been available with the [blauen Engel] from at least two manufacturers for gluing. Definitely look at and touch samples beforehand.

If there are no objections to tiles for you, such as cost or comfort, then I would choose tiles as they are more high-quality and in any case harmless to health.

There are also vinyl-like floors (often called design floors, but this is not a protected term) based on PE or PU plastics without plasticizers. Vinyl is a very hard plastic that is made soft by plasticizers. No vinyl without plasticizers. In the past, phthalates were used, which were very harmful to health or turned out to be so. Today, other plasticizers are used, which are not yet well understood, and there is also a lack of long-term experience with them. Vinyl is rather not recommended for rooms with children.
