Why are we guessing here? The silicone joint has to be replaced anyway if the tile was laid without an expansion joint! Just cut something off and take a look behind it. The guy who comes won’t do it any differently. He won’t be able to sense it by touching it or using a crystal ball.

The tile is obviously not broken now, only the top layer, whatever it’s made of, has chipped off. Were the tiles even suitable for outdoor use?

Thank you all, that helps me a lot!

We couldn't explain it, but that the tiles are set too close to the wall makes sense. Because it is really only the tiles on the stone wall that are affected.

That reassures me a bit, I thought maybe all the tiles would break one by one now.

No, this is an indoor bathroom! But only the edge towards the exterior wall is breaking. The rest is drywall and probably doesn't provide such a rigid resistance.

The screed also bears laterally against the walls under load. Therefore, there must be air between it and the covering there. However, one would still need to score all around the room with a narrow dividing blade afterwards and then be able to cover it with silicone. Replace defective tiles. I hope you still have some, as reorders may have color differences.

Thank you!

We have no more tiles, although we originally set some aside as a replacement. However, we unexpectedly needed them recently for the hallway (it was tiled afterward and we had too few – so there is already a color difference, but it is completely marginal).
