With the room size and shape, there will be an expansion joint. Or use anhydrite screed, then you won't have one. But as was said, it's actually no big deal, you simply butt up to the joint and seal it with silicone.

No screed yet, just the installation plan for the prefabricated house provider. Otherwise, they would have left it to the tile installer on site, but that was too uncertain for us because we don’t know if we can be there beforehand to discuss how he would do it. That’s why we wanted to give a rough direction.

However, it turned out to be difficult in hindsight. Firstly, it is very difficult with this size to lay it out so that the joints fit at the transitions everywhere (the joint being in the middle of a transition happens very quickly and with 1mx1m tiles you don’t have much room to maneuver) and secondly, we are not experts (keyword expansion joint, we didn’t think of it at all until it was mentioned here).

Keyword screed is a good tip though, we will inquire about that during the week.

As said: Flisö should tell the Estrichonkel in advance where the expansion joints in the screed should go. Then it works.

There are only two possibilities to divide the area into two rectangles

Presumably, I would try to place an expansion joint where usage zones (residential-dining-cooking) are separated, and create an offset or change the laying direction along this line.

We have 120 by 120 tiles and faced this decision in the hallway as well. Either one tile in the middle and 20 cm cut-offs on the left and right. We then started with a whole tile on the wall from which the view goes from the front door through to the living room.

Unfortunately, we have an expansion joint in there. The tiler cut the tile at that point and then laid the rest. From my perspective, it is the least noticeable.

A good tiler usually gives you 2-3 suggestions. At least that is how ours did it.
