Is your house basemented and there is a non-basemented garage next to it? Then one should install one - otherwise, follow the building expert's advice.

Only the fact that you are building on non-native soil could be a reason for a joint - if one part of the house possibly stands on native ground, and the other part does not.

Kind regards from the likewise ABC brick house

Unfortunately, with our 14 m we do need some after all well. I'll plant a bush in front of it

First of all, thank you very much for your numerous replies.

No Lexmaul79, we are building without a basement and only with a carport.

I have an expansion joint (ist aber auch unterkellert) and do not find it visually problematic. The bricklayers chose a color that matches the bricks well, so the joint is only noticeable upon close inspection.

Our house is 9x11 and we have no expansion joint. No problems in the last 2 years.
