Hello,

I need some competent advice:

We have a small roof window from Roto (year of manufacture 1981). The window can be opened and closed without any problems. However, when the window is closed, the sealing rubber does not press firmly against the frame, which leads to slight air ingress at the lower part of the window.

What repair options do I have? Is there any adjustment screw that influences the pressing pressure, could something be loose (if yes, what)?

I would prefer not to repair this with a layer of "sealing tape", but rather somewhat professionally (within the limits of my capabilities).

I look forward to your tips. If you need more information, please let me know.

Well, does no one have experience with these windows?

At roto, they didn’t want to help me either. They would have, of course, for a fee...

I would appreciate any help

I don't know the Roto window, but I had a similar problem with my wooden windows (built in 1995) .. opening/closing worked fine, but it didn't press the sash evenly against the frame. Adjusting the fittings didn't help, because the window sash had warped slightly and caused the problem. The window maker has been out of business for years, so I had to help myself. Buying new windows (even though I work for a window dealer) doesn't help, because a) it's a rental apartment and b) the "defect" is so minor that it counts at most as a cosmetic flaw. I retrofitted seals in these spots, and the problem hasn't existed since. I assume I'll have to renew this seal every few years because it certainly won't last forever, but it's not worth arguing over a few euros. What do you mean for a fee? Or do you think that someone who can't even tell from a remote diagnosis where the problem actually exists will fix your nearly 30-year-old window and not charge for it? Or even come by, look, and try for free? I can't either, if I drive a 30-year-old Golf that has something sticking, ask on the internet what it could be and then add: "I've already called VW, they don’t want to do it. They do, but for a fee ..."

Well, I actually wanted to avoid an additional seal.

> What do you have against payment?

Basically, nothing. BUT: The mentioned customer service would have had to travel well over 340 km. Besides, I specifically asked roto for tips on self-repair.

If then, of course, the answer is such that they recommend a service visit to me from the outset - without addressing my question with a single word -, that hardly speaks for the service of a company (so to speak, "missing the point"). Especially since the email sounded very much like a standardized text block and they did not respond at all to a second inquiry. That does make one annoyed. One could also save oneself the "customer service via email" or better rename it correctly to "hotline for paid repair inquiries."

The comparison with VW is also somewhat off. If a complex construct like a vehicle "won't run anymore," it can have dozens of causes. With a simple mechanical window, one should be able to name one or the other common source of error. Or don’t you think so?

Nevertheless, thanks so far
