Hello,

we have a patio roof that is closed on 3 sides.
At the moment, we do not have an awning under/above the double wall sheets.
Last summer, it got warm/stuffy under the roof (south side).

Now I am thinking about how I could improve this for this summer. I have considered a cable tension system, but I am not sure if that would help much??? Does anyone have experience with this? An awning above the roof is not possible for us... that would definitely be the best alternative, but unfortunately not feasible.
Does anyone have experience with ceiling fans? Do they help? Our roof is 30sqm. For the size, I was actually thinking of 2 ceiling fans.

I would appreciate any advice and experience reports.

Thank you and best regards

It would only be really good with external shading, but if that’s not possible, you first have to block direct radiation on the seated people (this can be done with any kind of internal shading). It will still heat up, and I don’t believe ceiling fans will help much (there are also problems with shading, though not unsolvable ones). You mainly need horizontal ventilation since the hot air needs to get out, but 1-2 regular fans can help effectively. The ultimate solution would be to lower the temperature below ambient level, which is possible with water. Either as a (high-)pond/fountain element or (more effective, but requires electricity) with a mister.

Well, you really have to let that sink in: a patio roof with two fans and/or an awning for heat protection... Think about whether you really need it, this roof including side protection, and why. Then possibly sell it and look for alternatives for furniture. Because this method doesn't sound all that great. It's like a ski holiday that you spend 12 hours a day in the wellness area because you don't like the cold.
