If it is to remain a swimming pond (why do you only realize after construction has started that you have children?), then you will probably have to put up an ugly fence. Alternatively, complete supervision of the children and early swimming lessons...

The idea with the grid is absurd! If there is enough space, a fence with a gate is not necessarily the worst solution. The simplest thing that comes to mind is a cover tarp, it doesn’t look ugly and protects the pond and the children. By the way, such a pond is quite a big danger, because even if you build a fence and children still fall in, yours or the neighbors', it is your fault! How is the swimming pond laid out? Freely accessible from all sides?

Hello,

the pond will be built right at the edge of the property so that it will only be accessible from two sides, but you know kids, they don't pay attention to things like that. Honestly, I'm less worried about the neighbors' children; if they're old enough to climb over my fence, then they can also swim.

I find the idea of the grille completely absurd, especially since, as the name suggests, I want to swim in it. I've also thought about a tarp, but that doesn't work with the plants growing in and around the pond.

However, yesterday I read about an alarm device that emits a signal tone when something falls into the water, so at least you don't have to constantly watch to see if a child is playing at the water's edge. I wanted to ask the pond builder what he thinks about it; what do you think, does such a device make sense?

Admit that a grid is unsuitable for a natural swimming pond.

But when it comes to the lives of my children, I would not want to rely on an alarm...

And yes, you have to "constantly check if a child is playing at the water's edge" when the water's edge is freely accessible. The depth is irrelevant.

What use is the alarm device to you if you are, for example, in the basement, on the toilet, or somewhere else? By the time you have saved the child, it's already too late anyway! ... and running to the pond for every frog, bird, etc. does not seem purposeful to me either.

If the tarp is not taut, you could sink into it afterwards. Otherwise, it is life-threatening even for an adult. You fall in, sink into the tarp, and the water pressure from outside does the rest.

I would advise against this solution.
