That is not really expensive; the tiler has significantly more effort in laying and also more waste. If you also want tile skirting, it will be even more expensive, because only the end sides of each strip can be used; the rest of the strip is unusable. Building expert on the go

For me, it was worth removing the trade. Just ask your [GU] what credit they would give for it and then you can still think it over. I think you will find a good craftsman who will do the work for around 30 € per sqm. Then you take a look around a tile studio and in the end you add it all up. I reserved our tiles at a studio that is one of the top addresses in my area and got a big discount there. In the end, it pays off for me. It would have been much more expensive if I had done it through the [GU].

: With 90x22 there isn't much waste left, don't you think?

Hi construction expert,

What _exactly_ is the extra effort? There is no additional tile adhesive, after all, it’s the same square meter amount. The large tiles are overall 10% bigger, so that shouldn’t be a real weight problem either. And why more waste? Maybe with diagonal laying, but with straight laying it shouldn’t make much difference. The 24 euro additional cost is already about 2/3 of the tile price, so he must have a lot of waste....

I can somehow understand a bit of extra effort, but 24 euros should easily be 50% of the labor cost!

With the skirting it got even funnier, they seriously want me to buy separate skirting strips instead of cutting them from the tiles. The latter is included in the general contractor price....

Best regards,

Andreas

With this format, he won't be able to cut them himself, but will have to have them cut with a water saw. Not everyone is up for that...

We have similar tile sizes in the living room and even longer tiles in the kitchen and hallway with almost no waste. We had the tiles laid in a random pattern. The skirting board was made by the tiler from the tiles with rounded edges.
