Hello everyone,

in our future house there is a cold roof. Since only certain things should be stored there, we want to get special storage boxes that provide protection against external temperature differences as well as moisture. Normal plastic boxes, which we already have, are rather less suitable for this. Can you recommend specific boxes that you use yourselves?

No idea. I would insulate afterwards myself; cold roofs would be suspicious to me.

If you insulate cold roofs thoughtlessly, you will bring problems upon yourself, such as mold.

Airtight boxes will exist. But insulation of the box only slows down temperature fluctuations. If it is cold for a long time in winter, it will sooner or later be cold inside such a box as well.
For sensitive items, a cold roof is simply not suitable.

I can't find the thread right now, but insulated his attic afterwards, likes to build economically, and can certainly explain at which points an even more minimal solution is nonsense.

For the insulation of cold roofs. I did not do this thoughtlessly, but together with a master carpenter from the family. It is completely unproblematic if you insulate completely, meaning you don’t forget any corners and seal carefully with a vapor barrier. This way, we now have a dry and always slightly temperate roof, where everything can be stored safely. Previously, when it was still a cold roof, mattresses or cushions up there were always damp in winter, and paint would freeze.

Hello , thank you very much for your feedback. That sounds like a reasonable plan. I will talk to our carpenter who worked on our roof. Currently, an additional 24 cm thick mineral wool insulation WLG 035 is being installed between the lower chords of the truss rafters. From the perspective of Town & Country, that would not have been necessary, but it seemed sensible to us. Our construction supervisor also confirmed to us that this was a reasonable decision. Town & Country wanted to make us believe that cold roofs are quite normal and that you can store many things there, but not sensitive items like electronics.
